The proposal titled “Vote of Confidence on Principal Officers of the Senate,” was in pursuant to Orders 42 and 52 of the Senate Standing Order 2015.
Amid rowdy sessio
on Tuesday, September 29, about 83 Senators passed a vote of confidence on the embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, as the 8th senate resumed from its 4th recess in 110 days.
Saraki, who is standing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over alleged corruption and false declaration of assets, initially got the backing of 84 senator but the Chairman, Senate Committee on Business and Rules, Babajide Omowarare(APC-Osun East), backed out – leaving the figure at 83.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senators, numbering 48 and 35 senators from the majority All Progressives Congress (APC) are putting their foot down for the Senate leader.
